If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that as a Washington DC family photographer, I LOVE capturing smiles. Even better when those smiles are paired with big belly laughs. Serious portraiture definitely has it’s time and place, but for me – give me the giggles! Today I am going to share my very top (not)secret tip to guarantee big smiles at your family session. Are you ready for this?
It’s movement! That’s right…are you worried that your kids won’t sit still for a photo session? Well guess what? I don’t expect them to! They’re kids! Most of my sessions are spent following their lead, and honestly, a lot of times they have better ideas than I do! Once they know we’re just going to have some fun and I’m going to take some pictures along the way, even the grumpiest kid starts to have a good time 🙂
But back to movement…one of the easiest ways to incorporate this into your family session is to dance! Dads twirling their little one by the finger is always adorable. And who can resist smiling when your little one is busting out their best dance moves? Fun for the whole family. This adorably awesome family featured on today’s post totally rocked this tip. They even had the cutest record player that just added to the scene. Just try not to smile when looking at the next few photos. I dare you 😉
